EVE (European Volunteers for the Environment) project was set up with the aim of satisfying the desire expressed by young Europeans to become more involved in environmental issues. The project aims to create activities that generate environmentally friendly attitudes and increase the environmental competences of young people by giving them the possibility to disseminate them through the opportunities offered by the Programme European Solidarity Corps.

Europe is seeing young people increasingly present and active in environmental policies, taking the lead on the need to make climate change and the environment a top priority for the European Union in the coming years.

The Green Deal represents an EU roadmap for society: to help strengthen the collective aspirations that are being mobilised in Europe to make our continent the world leader in environmental conservation.

The ecological transition can and should contribute to the strengthening of European citizenship, allowing public action and citizens' action to come together and contribute to the same goal.

Youth organisations have an important role to play in this field and can respond to the expectations of young people who occupy a special place in this social challenge because they will be the first to be affected by the changes taking place.

The Goal 10 of the Youth Goals, that represent the opinions of youth from all over Europe, refers to a "Sustainable Green Europe" and aims to “achieve a society in which all young people are environmentally active, educated and able to make a difference in their everyday lives”.

Pursuing to promote green competences and to contribute to the Goal 10 of the Youth Goals for a SUSTAINABLE GREEN EUROPE, the project aims to:

  • Educate, ensuring that everyone, including young people, understand the impact of their actions on the environment.
  • Empower young people to play an active role in the change towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly development. Acquire and develop social values and a deep concern for the environment.
  • Enhance, promote and strengthen young people's involvement in environmental issues. Create an annual meeting for European Solidarity Corps volunteers engaged in environmental awareness.

The project foresees the development of four main outputs:

PR1: Report that identify the needs and measure how environmental education is considered in youth work, more specifically by those involved in national and European voluntary programmes, and present the opportunities and courses of action that work on environmental competence offers, and how it will be possible to make the ESC volunteer period a time for sustainable education.

PR2:Micro-learning modules that will respond to the real needs identified by the young European volunteers accompanied by a support file for the mentors in order to deepen the topics: how to succeed in setting up tutoring actions quickly and effectively so that they become actions of education for sustainable development and the environment.

PR3: Training courses formats for mentors and youth workers based on a set of case studies and action examples in relation to responsible and sustainable volunteering practice, local and European, which can be used as a learning resource focused on raising awareness and commitment to ecological awareness.

PR4:Map to identify European volunteering opportunities in order to facilitate the search and participation of young people in volunteering programmes (European Solidarity Corps) and promote good practices initiated by young people to enhance them to make them durable. A day of action for national and European volunteers in favour of the environment and the fight against climate change on 5 June each year to mark World Environment Day.
